This year marks the 50 years of bilateral relationship between Mexico and South Korea. With this celebration comes the continued agreement of cooperation and cultural exchange between these two countries. Both are members of the G-20 nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation.
A ceremony took place at the Palacio Postal, or the Postal Palace with the Director General of the Mexican Postal Service, Pablo Salvador Reyes Pruneda, and the South Korean Ambassador to Mexico, Whan-bok Cho, presenting a special postage stamp that marks the 50years of ties between Mexico and South Korea. The postage stamp will serve as a symbol of Mexico’s desire to cooperate with the programs of South Korea as well as to strengthen the friendship between two countries. Both nations hope for the betterment of each country not just in economic terms but also in cultural, educational as well as scientific relations.
Also a part of the commemoration included the exchange of congratulatory letters by the two leaders, President Felipe Calderon of Mexico and Lee Myung-bak of South Korea, indicating their wishes for the improvement of the relationship between their two countries. South Korea is an important country to Mexico given that it is the third major investor from the Asia-Pacific region and sixth major trading partner.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary this year, Mexico and South Korea are hosting several activities that will advance the cultures of each nation as well as to promote each country to the world.
