Mexicoand the European Union have signed a joint agreement that has formally gone into effect to help strengthen tourism on both sides. Mexican Tourism Secretary Gloria Guevara and European Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship Antonio Tajani were the two representatives that signed the pact.
Both sides are looking forward to the increased tourism that the agreement is anticipated to produce. A joint statement from the EU and Mexican government noted that tourism is an important factor in generating economic growth, development, and employment, as well as social integration. According to the Mexican Tourism Secretariat, tourism is a top priority for the country, and they are optimistic that the industry will continue to improve in the coming years. The Secretariat also added thatMexicohas already seen a rise in the number of European visitors, with numbers from January to November of 2011 coming in higher than those from the same time period in 2010.
The agreement betweenMexicoand the European Union will implement measures to make travel between Europe andMexicoeasier, enhance travel promotions, improve upon existing airlines, and increase the availability of lodging.
